Curator Michelle Grabner’s 1800-mile, 107-studio-visit trip across Oregon was an exhaustive, invigorating and memorable experience. While 34 artists were selected for the Portland2016 Biennial, Grabner sought to recognize the contribution each of the artist she visited makes to the regional landscape. The result is a 105-work encapsulation of her research—Salon: Portland2016 Biennial, The Studio Visits, which serves as a curatorial index that celebrates the broad spectrum of art-making in Oregon and illuminates the research and selection process of the curator.
